Privacy Policy

SunUp ("we", "us", or "our") operates the SunUp mobile application and this website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use SunUp.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Alarm settings, wake times, dismiss task preferences, and notes you enter in the app
  • Mood and morning notes you optionally record after waking
  • Support messages you send to us by email

Information collected automatically

  • Device information such as device model, operating system version, and app version
  • Usage and diagnostic data such as feature interactions and crash logs
  • Subscription status through Apple StoreKit (we do not receive your full payment card details)
  • Advertising and attribution data when you use the app (see Section 4)

Sleep tracking (microphone)

If you enable sleep tracking, SunUp uses the device microphone to analyze overnight sound patterns and estimate sleep stages. Audio is processed on your device and is not recorded, stored as audio files, or uploaded to our servers.

Camera and NFC

  • The camera is used only for dismiss tasks you choose (such as photo proof or QR code scanning)
  • NFC is used only to pair and read Sun Dial tags for scan-to-wake dismiss tasks, when available

2. How we use information

  • Provide and improve alarm, sleep, and insight features
  • Process subscriptions and deliver Pro features
  • Send notifications you opt into (bedtime reminders, morning prep, weekly insights)
  • Measure app performance and fix bugs
  • Attribute app installs and purchases to marketing campaigns (see Section 4)
  • Respond to support requests

3. Where data is stored

Most SunUp data (alarms, wake logs, sleep sessions, preferences) is stored locally on your device using on-device storage. We do not operate a user account system that syncs your personal alarm or sleep data to our cloud by default.

If you purchase SunUp Pro with a Sun Dial bundle, limited entitlement data may be exchanged with our backend to validate your purchase and deliver your redemption code.

4. Advertising and attribution

We use AppsFlyer as our mobile measurement partner to understand which marketing campaigns lead to app installs and subscriptions. AppsFlyer may share aggregated or pseudonymous data with advertising partners such as Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and TikTok so we can measure and improve our advertising.

Events we measure may include:

  • App install and first open
  • Onboarding completion
  • Paywall views and purchase events

On iOS, we may request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission. If you decline, we still measure installs using Apple's SKAdNetwork framework with limited, privacy-preserving data.

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Apple — for App Store billing, subscriptions, and notifications
  • AppsFlyer — for install and purchase attribution
  • Meta and TikTok — via AppsFlyer postbacks for ad measurement
  • Service providers — who help us operate the app or website under confidentiality obligations
  • Legal authorities — when required by law or to protect rights and safety

6. Your choices

  • Disable notifications in iOS Settings or in SunUp Settings
  • Decline ATT tracking when prompted on iOS
  • Turn off sleep tracking or revoke microphone access in iOS Settings
  • Manage or cancel subscriptions in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
  • Delete the app to remove locally stored data from your device

7. Data retention

On-device data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Analytics and attribution data retained by our partners is governed by their respective retention policies.

8. Children's privacy

SunUp is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

9. International users

If you access SunUp from outside the country where we operate, your information may be processed in countries with different data protection laws. Where applicable, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or on this page.
